Library 101: Everything you need to get started with the Library: Logging In

How to log in

To log in to Library services when prompted, your username and password are as follows:

Username: Student number e.g. N0012345678

Password: Regular IADT password, such as the one you use for email, BlackBoard, etc.

login as student no., password, boxes ticked

Notes:

Don't enter your email address, just your student number!

For staff, use your name and initial, e.g. smithj

Troubleshooting

1. The #1 reason you might be having trouble logging in is because you have saved your library password to your browser.

  • Saving it will work for a while but will eventually cause issues logging in.
  • To fix this issue, you will need to reset your password.
    • There are instructions here, but if they don't work, email ICT.
    • Email ICT at support@iadt.ie and ask them to reset your password. Give your name, student number and a mobile phone number they can text you with.
    • Then when you get your new password,  make sure to tick the two boxes circled in the image below every time you log in and
    • Never save your password to your browser.

By doing this from the very first time you get your new password, you shouldn't have issues logging in again in the future.

2. The second most common reason is that your password is more than 90 days old. ICT Services have a stricter policy now that says that password over 90 days expire and need to be reset.

3. Another fix is to make sure you are not putting your email as the username, it is just your student number/staff name.

4. You may just need your password reset even if you haven't saved it in your browser or if it's not old. To do this, email support@iadt.ie. Give your name, student number and a mobile phone number they can text you with.

You can email from any email address (in case you can't get in to your Institute email), but just make sure to give as much identifying information as you can so that ICT Services can help you quickly.

Please note that Library staff cannot reset your password, only ICT Services can do this.

Database logins

As each database is run by a different company, the login procedure is different for each one. Click here for login procedures for each individual database.

  • Some require you to navigate to them directly through the link on the Library website, as they authenticate users that way - for example, Kanopy.
  • Some require a special username and password which they provide to library staff, and which we will provide to you upon request by email - for example, any of the Bloomsbury databases.
  • Some require institutional logins where you click "Log In" on their website, find IADT from a list of institutions, and then log in using your student number and password as normal when shown the IADT branded log in screen - for example, JSTOR or Project Muse.

If you are unsure about logging in to a specific database, use our live chat or email us at infolib@iadt.ie and we can help you.

Logging in video

This video will walk you through how to log in to the Library. Remember, your username is your student number, not your email address, and the same password you use for everything in IADT (Blackboard, emails, etc.).

Logging in to the Library

There are several points at which you may be asked to log in to the library.

You can choose to log in by clicking the orange "My Account" button on the top right-hand side of our website:

You may be prompted to log in when doing a search using the white search bar on our website:

You may have to navigate to your institutional log in through a database such as JSTOR:
